EXAMPLES OF THIS KIND OF WORK #3

And what about this work by Felix Gonzalez-Torres?

It uses going to a museum, and what you see there, and what you do there -- in a unique way.

  1. I loved how Felix Gonzalez-Torres used just a simple pile of replenished candy as an act to preserve the memory of his partner, Ross Laycock. Although I was a bit confused as to what the candy represented, being that his partner died of AIDS and not due to obesity as far as I researched...

I feel like maybe his obesity should have been more amplified somehow in the piece or throughout the description. The fact that he passed due to a disease not relating to obesity kind of threw me off, maybe I am missing something?

Either way I feel like it was literally a bittersweet way to involve the public with the loss of a loved one. It reminded me of entering a church and being encouraged to dip their hands in holy water before entering the realm of God. Except taking out the religion, you are encouraged to take a candy in remembrance of this man who was loved and passed. The candy is replenished constantly so that the pile never disappears... almost making him immortal in spirit as this metaphor constantly exists in this space.
